"We arrived in 1982. Australia and the West represented freedom. The cost of migrating was immeasurable. Initially like so many migrants my parents thought it would only be for a few years. The government in Iran would change and life would go back to normal. They didn't think that they would never return. That their parents would die, that their siblings would have nephews and nieces that they'd never know. But thats another story. I write about it here because the choice to come to Australia instilled in me that freedom comes at a cost. Nothing is more valuable and its the ultimate achievement. So thats what I photograph, it's the theme that motivates every story." p102 from "Today is to dance"
